Preeti Pal has become the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic medals. She won bronze in the 200m T-35 race at the Paris Paralympics 2024, with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds. Previously, she won bronze in the 100m T-35 race in 14.21 seconds, another personal best.
President Draupadi Murmu congratulated Preeti, adding, “After her 100m bronze, this is her second medal at the Paris Paralympics, an exceptional achievement.” Preeti’s win has energised sports fans and motivated young people in India.
Despite receiving criticism following her 100m victory, Preeti stayed determined. “I am happy I won another medal,” she stated. Her determination has been visible since her selection for the World Para Athletics Championship 2024, where she won two bronze medals and earned a spot in the Paralympics.
India has won seven medals in the Paris Paralympics, with one gold, two silvers, and four bronzes. India has sent the highest delegation of 84 participants to the Paralympics this year, hoping to improve on their record in Tokyo 2020, when they won 19 gold.
