Rudrankksh Patil Strikes Gold at ISSF World Cup, Marks a Strong Comeback

Rudrankksh Patil made a spectacular return on the international stage by winning gold at the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires. Moments after his victory, he contacted his father, Balasaheb, and stated, “I am back”, expressing his relief at having overcome a severe career setback.

Patil, despite his continuous performance and World Championship title, was not selected for the Indian shooting team for the Paris Olympics nine months ago. On Sunday, the 21-year-old dispelled doubters with a strong performance that included 15 scores of 10.7 or higher in the 24-shot final.

His father recalled Patil’s disappointment in missing the Olympics but praised his fortitude in turning the setback into drive. Patil, who had previously suffered from an auto-immune disease caused by stress, worked closely with his trainers and a psychologist to regain his enthusiasm for shooting. He swapped firearms and tried different training methods, including competing in the 50-meter rifle 3-position event.

Patil dominated the final in Buenos Aires, scoring many high 10s, including two perfect 10.9s. His precision surprised national coach Deepali Deshpande, who applauded his will to grow. Patil has given a clear message with this goal: he is prepared to face greater challenges ahead.
