Established by Mr. Majeed’s late father, Dr. Muhammed Majeed, over three decades ago, Sami-Sabinsa has evolved into a globally renowned name. The company has taken the lead in bringing standardized extracts of botanicals to the market by blending traditional Ayurvedic wisdom with contemporary scientific inquiry. Now, its catalogue contains over 130 herbal extracts supported by clinical trials in association with world-class institutions. Mr. Majeed wishes to see Sami-Sabinsa lead scientific research. To that end, he has introduced game-changing products to the market while also getting regulatory approval around the world. Over the years, the seasoned leader has held diverse roles, including sales, supply chain management, manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and global marketing. His term of office as the Worldwide President in 2017 saw the company build a presence across the globe with revolutionary global initiatives. DRIVEN BY QUALITY AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
A firm believer in science-driven innovation, Mr. Majeed ensures all products developed by Sami-Sabinsa are backed by sound research and clinical studies. Some of the company’s most well-known branded ingredients include Curcumin C3 Complex®, BioPerine®, LactoSpore®, DigeZyme®, Saberry®, and Boswellin®. These products have established standards in their respective segments and are used extensively in nutraceuticals, functional foods, and cosmeceuticals. Consequently, several of its ingredients have won regulatory approvals, such as FDA Investigational New Drug (IND) designations and Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status. This focus on scientific rigour has played a significant role in establishing the company as a leader in the international nutraceutical sector. Mr. Majeed also advocates for knowledge sharing programmes to train formulators, marketers, and industry professionals. He has revived the multi-day “Sabinsa on Wheels” conference, an information exchange forum which brings together experts to share views on clinical research, formulation philosophy, and trends in the industry. He also started “Sabinsa Knowledge Day,” which is a cut down version of the convention, aimed at providing direct interaction opportunities for scientists with business leaders.
FOCUSED ON PEOPLE’S GROWTH
Mr. Majeed is committed to developing a highly performing, engaged workforce. He believes that a company’s success relies on its people. To that end, he makes consistent efforts to promote a collaborative, professional, and inclusive culture. Considering the need for a more organized leadership style, he and his sister, Dr. Anju Majeed, Chairperson of Sami-Sabinsa Group, have established a clearer management framework. This shift has empowered managers across various departments, besides promoting effective decision-making while maintaining the company’s core values of integrity and innovation.
SUSTAINABILITY AND FUTURE INITIATIVES
Apart from scientific and business advancements, Mr. Majeed prioritises sustainability initiatives. Over the past decade, the company has maintained 250 acres of forest land for biodiversity and environmental conservation. This programme is now being expanded to cultivate additional seedlings and further reinforce the company’s commitment to sustainable sourcing. He leads Sami-Sabinsa in developing new ingredients through frontier research. New products introduced recently are Sabroxy® for brain health, LivLonga® for liver health, CurCousin™ for metabolic well-being, and LactoSporin® for skin and hair wellness. The company is also investigating gut microbiome science frontiers, capitalizing on its experience in probiotics like LactoSpore®. Mr. Majeed is dedicated to understanding the implications of the evolving realities of natural products. He says, “The future of the nutraceutical business is about responsible innovation—where science reigns supreme and marketing claims fall in line with the scientific temperament. Every ingredient that is brought to market should be backed by thorough research, and it is crucial to follow the strictest guidelines for product development.”
