Sanju Samson Breaks MS Dhoni’s Record To Climb New High For CSK, Charging Towards Massive First

Sanju Samson created history for Chennai Super Kings by surpassing MS Dhoni’s long-standing franchise record for the most runs scored by a designated wicketkeeper in a single IPL season. The landmark came during Chennai’s IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Samson scored a quick 27 runs off just 13 deliveries, taking his season tally to 477 runs in 13 matches. In doing so, he overtook Dhoni’s previous record of 461 runs set during the 2013 IPL season. Samson has emerged as one of CSK’s standout performers this year, having already registered two centuries and a half-century in the tournament.

The wicketkeeper-batter also moved closer to becoming the first designated CSK wicketkeeper to score 500 runs in a single IPL season. His aggressive start helped CSK post a competitive total of 180/7 against Hyderabad.

Samson’s successful transition into the Chennai setup has drawn praise from fans and experts alike, especially given the comparisons with Dhoni’s legacy at the franchise. His performances have added fresh momentum to CSK’s IPL 2026 campaign.
