India made its Asian Games debut in teqball at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games, with Declan Marshall Gonsalves and Mohamed Anas Imran Beg competing in the men’s doubles event. Teqball is being introduced as a medal sport at the Asian Games for the first time in 2026.
Gonsalves and Beg were placed in Group B and faced Vietnam and South Korea in the opening stage. They lost both matches 0-2 and finished at the bottom of the group, ending their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.
The Indian pair began against Vietnam’s Truong Giang Ba and Anh Khoa Le. They lost the opening game 10-12 after the score was tied at 10-10, before Vietnam took the second game 12-8. India then faced South Korea’s Junsuk Lee and Taebeen Lee, losing 4-12 and 7-12.
India’s three-member teqball squad also includes Quimcy Dsouza. Beg and Dsouza are scheduled to compete in mixed doubles, while Dsouza is also entered in the women’s singles event.
Teqball combines elements of football and table tennis and is played on a curved table. Players use different parts of the body to return the ball, but cannot use their arms or hands. The sport features both singles and doubles competitions.
The Aichi-Nagoya Games are being held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, with India sending 503 athletes across 36 disciplines.
