Atiqa Mir, a 10-year-old karting sensation from Jammu and Kashmir, is about to make history as the first Indian female to compete in the coveted World Series Karting (WSK) Championship. She has signed a full-season contract with Babyrace, a team with 29 championship titles, following an outstanding test drive at the La Conca circuit in Italy.
Atiqa will compete in the extremely competitive Mini class, which includes over 60 racers. She will be the sole female participant in this category. Her trip starts this weekend with the WSK Super Master Series. She will also compete in the WSK European Series and the WSK Final Cup.
Atiqa expressed her pleasure, saying, “I am happy to race at this level with Babyrace. Learning new courses and adjusting to winter racing will be difficult, but I am prepared for it.”
WSK is the pinnacle of karting, producing individuals such as Max Verstappen, the defending Formula One World Champion. Atiqa follows in her father’s footsteps. Her father, Asif Nazir, India’s first National Karting Champion and Formula Asia Vice Champion, will join her in Italy.
