Cameroon Make History With Maiden WAFCON Triumph Against Malawi

Cameroon won their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title after defeating Malawi 3-0 in the final in Rabat, Morocco.

Marie Ngah scored twice as the Indomitable Lionesses finally lifted the trophy. Cameroon had previously lost three WAFCON finals before achieving their breakthrough.

Cameroon dominated from the opening stages and led 3-0 at halftime. Ngah opened the scoring in the 20th minute after reacting to a loose ball.

Naomi Eto doubled Cameroon’s advantage around the half-hour mark. Ngah struck again in stoppage time, converting an assist from Eto to achieve a flawless victory.

Malawi’s run to the final was one of the tournament’s biggest stories. Ranked 153rd globally, the tournament debutants reached the final after an impressive underdog campaign.

Both finalists secured qualification for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Algeria finished third after winning the bronze-medal match on penalties.

Cameroon became only the fourth nation to win the WAFCON since its launch in 1998. Nigeria remains the competition’s most successful team with 10 titles.
