Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal concluded a European visit in July aimed at strengthening India’s economic partnerships with Spain, Belgium, Finland and Estonia, with discussions covering trade, investment, technology and sustainability.
Accompanied by a high-level Indian business delegation, Goyal held meetings with government representatives and industry leaders to identify opportunities for commercial cooperation. The visit ran from 13 to 18 July, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
In Spain, discussions focused on expanding trade and investment, including opportunities in renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, railways, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and food processing. Goyal also promoted a vision to expand India-Spain trade, investment and tourism tenfold over the coming decade.
In Belgium, Goyal co-chaired the third India-EU Trade and Technology Council ministerial meeting, which adopted a 2026-27 action plan. Engagements also included the India-EU Business Roundtable, with a focus on investment, trade facilitation, sustainable technologies and resilient supply chains.
The Finnish leg centred on advanced manufacturing, telecommunications, clean energy, mobility and innovation. Goyal met representatives from major companies and research institutions, including Nokia, Kone, Kemppi Group and the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
The visit ended in Estonia on 18 July, the first ministerial-level visit from India since New Delhi opened its resident embassy in Tallinn in 2021. Goyal encouraged businesses from both countries to expand cooperation in cybersecurity, blockchain, clean energy and green hydrogen.
The visit came as India sought to expand its commercial presence in European markets and strengthen cooperation in strategic industries. European businesses, meanwhile, have been exploring opportunities in India’s manufacturing, infrastructure and clean-energy sectors.
