Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Norway’s highest civilian honour, the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, during his visit to Oslo. The honour marks the 32nd international award, received by Modi from a foreign nation, recognising his contribution to strengthening India’s global partnerships and diplomatic outreach.
The award was presented in acknowledgement of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between India and Norway, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, climate cooperation, maritime partnership and economic collaboration. Norwegian officials praised India’s growing global influence and Modi’s role in expanding ties with European nations.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Norwegian leadership and dedicated the honour to the people of India. He stated that the recognition reflects the growing friendship between the two countries and India’s rising stature on the international stage.
During the visit, discussions were also held on trade, green technology, Arctic cooperation and sustainable development. The honour adds to a long list of international recognitions received by Modi from countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas during his tenure as prime minister.
