Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Vietnamese Defence Minister Phan Van Giang in Hanoi as India and Vietnam explored ways to further strengthen defence and strategic cooperation. The meeting focused on maritime security, military training, defence production, and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Both leaders reviewed ongoing defence engagements and discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and capacity building. India and Vietnam also reiterated their commitment to maintaining a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific amid growing geopolitical challenges in the region.
The talks reflected the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries, which has steadily expanded over the years through naval exchanges, defence training programmes, and supply of defence equipment. India has been one of Vietnam’s important strategic partners in Southeast Asia, while Vietnam remains a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy.
Officials stated that both nations are keen to strengthen coordination in regional forums and enhance collaboration in maritime domain awareness and defence technology. The meeting underlined the growing importance of India-Vietnam ties in the evolving Asian security landscape.
