The Royal Commission for Riyadh City launched the Riyadh Digital Innovation District on August 27. The project aims to position the Saudi capital among the world’s top 10 technology hubs.
The district will focus on six domains. They are artificial intelligence and big data, cybersecurity, computing and cloud services, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and robotics and unmanned aerial systems. The commission said these sectors account for the majority of global technology investment.
Minister of State and RCRC chief executive Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Sultan said the initiative would strengthen Riyadh’s position as a destination for international technology companies, digital entrepreneurs and specialised talent. He also thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continued support of the commission’s projects.
The district is designed as an integrated business environment. Technology companies will be able to work alongside researchers, start-ups and government and private-sector partners. Support services are expected to expand across each phase of the initiative.
Regular meetings and events are also planned. These will connect founders, engineers, researchers and investors.
The launch builds on Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification programme. The kingdom’s IT market grew 133% in 2025. Venture capital investment nationally also rose 145% since 2018.
Riyadh is already home to the $2.7 billion Hexagon Data Center. The project forms part of the kingdom’s push to expand digital infrastructure and reduce its reliance on oil reven
