Ethanol stove can cut household cooking costs, says Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said ethanol-powered cooking stoves could significantly reduce household cooking expenses while promoting cleaner and more sustainable energy usage across India. Speaking at an event focused on alternative fuels and green energy solutions, Gadkari highlighted the potential of ethanol as an affordable substitute for conventional cooking fuels.

According to the minister, ethanol-based stoves can lower dependence on liquefied petroleum gas and other fossil fuel-based energy sources. He emphasised that wider adoption of ethanol fuel could benefit rural and urban households by reducing cooking costs and supporting India’s renewable energy objectives.

Gadkari has consistently advocated for biofuels, ethanol blending and alternative energy technologies as part of India’s broader strategy to cut fuel imports and reduce pollution levels. He noted that ethanol production from agricultural residues and sugarcane by-products could also create additional income opportunities for farmers and boost the rural economy.

Industry experts believe ethanol-based cooking technology could become an important component of India’s clean energy transition if supported by proper distribution networks and affordable fuel availability. The government has already expanded ethanol blending programmes in the transport sector and continues exploring new applications for ethanol across industries and domestic energy use.
