India’s close cooperation with Venezuela holds immense importance for the Global South: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India’s close cooperation with Venezuela is of immense importance to the Global South during talks with Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez in New Delhi. The leaders held extensive discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation across energy, critical minerals, technology, agriculture, healthcare, and people-to-people exchanges. Modi described Venezuela as a valued partner in Latin America and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening ties for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The meeting comes at a time when India is seeking to diversify its energy sources amid global supply uncertainties. Venezuela, which possesses some of the world’s largest oil reserves, has emerged as an increasingly important energy partner for India. Both sides explored opportunities in upstream and downstream energy projects as well as cooperation in mining and critical minerals, sectors considered vital for future industrial and clean-energy transitions.

Officials from both countries highlighted the complementary nature of the relationship, with Venezuela offering energy resources and India providing a large and growing market. The discussions are expected to deepen economic engagement while reinforcing cooperation among developing nations and strengthening the voice of the Global South in international affairs.
