Fifteen-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the youngest player ever selected for the Indian cricket team after being named in upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games. In doing so, the Bihar-born batsman broke a 36-year-old record held by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who made his India debut at the age of 16 in 1989.
Sooryavanshi earned national selection following a historic IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest stars. The young left-hander swept the major post-season honours, winning the Most Valuable Player award, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker, Orange Cap and Super Sixes of the Season.
He finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer with a remarkable 776 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30. His aggressive batting style and record-breaking tally of 72 sixes helped him surpass several IPL milestones and establish himself as one of Indian cricket’s promising young talents.
India will play two T20 internationals against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before touring England for a five-match T20 series from July 1 to 11. Sooryavanshi has also been named in India’s squad for the men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games, which will be played in T20 format from September 24 to October 3.
