Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sankalp, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, on Saturday, January 17th 2026, as part of its ongoing overseas deployment to friendly countries in the Indian Ocean Region, reaffirming India’s commitment to maritime cooperation and regional security.
According to the Defence Ministry, the port call aligns with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision, which focuses on strengthening maritime safety, security, and environmental protection across the Indian Ocean. The visit also highlights the Indian Coast Guard’s inclusive approach, with two women officers embarked on board Sankalp, reflecting the growing role of women in maritime operations.
During its stay, ICGS Sankalp will undertake a range of professional engagements with the National Coast Guard of Mauritius and other maritime agencies. These interactions are aimed at sharing best practices, enhancing interoperability, and strengthening cooperation in key operational domains.
A structured training programme has been planned, including sea and harbour exercises, oil pollution response drills, firefighting and damage control training, and joint Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) exercises. Navigation bridge coordination and Machinery Control Room integration drills will further enhance operational synergy.
The visit will also feature sports events, cultural exchanges, and community outreach activities, fostering people-to-people ties. Additionally, the port call showcases India’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
After Mauritius, ICGS Sankalp will proceed to Seychelles, continuing India’s maritime outreach in the region.
