India eyes $1 Trillion export target; Minister Goyal calls it ‘Our Time Under the Sun.’

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has announced an ambitious target of achieving $1 trillion in exports during the current financial year, calling it “our time under the sun” as India seeks to strengthen its position in global trade. The announcement came during the LEAPS Awards event and the release of the LEADS Report 2025, focused on logistics and trade infrastructure.

India recorded exports worth over $863 billion in goods and services during the previous financial year, and the government now aims to bridge the remaining gap through stronger trade partnerships, improved logistics, and expanding global demand. Goyal said ongoing free trade agreements and regulatory reforms would play a major role in supporting export growth.

The minister highlighted several reforms undertaken by the government, including reducing compliance burdens and decriminalising numerous business-related offences under the Jan Vishwas Bill. He also stressed the importance of coordination between states and the Centre to improve ease of doing business and infrastructure development.

Officials believe sectors such as manufacturing, electronics, pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and services exports will drive India’s export expansion in the coming years. The government sees growing global demand and expanding trade agreements as major opportunities for Indian businesses to increase their international footprint.
