PM Modi to Inaugurate Dhordo as India’s Newest Solar-Powered Village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate Dhordo, a remote village in Gujarat’s Kutch district, as India’s newest solar village. The official announcement will be made during the Samudra Se Samriddhi function in Bhavnagar. Dhordo, which has previously been recognised as the Best Tourism Village by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), is now set to become a paradigm for clean energy transformation.

The village has been completely solarised under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, which encourages rural homes to use solar power. All residential connections in Dhordo now use solar energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions. Solar photovoltaic systems convert sunlight into electricity, while solar thermal units heat water, lowering energy use and increasing sustainability.

Dhordo becomes Gujarat’s fourth village to achieve complete solarisation, meeting India’s ambitious goal of adding 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The initiative aligns with India’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 7, which calls for universal access to clean and affordable energy.

The initiative not only contributes to protecting the environment, but it also raises living conditions, making Dhordo a symbol of rural progress and India’s clean energy revolution.
