Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit New Delhi by the end of the year to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Russian embassy in India. An official confirmed that, while preparations are underway, the visit’s exact dates have yet to be decided.
According to Roman Babushkin, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Russian Embassy, both leaders will meet on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit later this month in Tianjin. The planned trip comes shortly after Modi and Putin spoke on the phone about Putin’s recent meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.
During the call, PM Modi reaffirmed that India has consistently advocated for dialogue and a peaceful settlement to the Ukraine conflict, which is now in its fourth year. He thanked Putin for sharing details about his talks with Trump and emphasised India’s commitment to global stability.
Putin’s upcoming visit also comes at a time when India is facing 50% tariffs imposed by the US, half of which are linked to New Delhi’s ongoing energy trade with Moscow.
Babushkin emphasised Russia’s strong defence partnership with India, describing Operation Sindoor as a successful showcase of Russian weapons.
