India has reached a major clean energy milestone, with 45 lakh households now powered by solar energy, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced. The development highlights the rapid expansion of renewable energy adoption across the country, especially in residential sectors.
The minister said the achievement reflects the success of government initiatives aimed at increasing rooftop solar installations, reducing electricity costs and promoting sustainable growth. He described solar power as a transformative force bringing cleaner and more affordable energy to millions of families.
India has aggressively expanded renewable capacity over the past decade and now ranks among the world’s leading nations in solar deployment. Separate official data released recently stated that India ranks third globally in renewable energy installed capacity, moving ahead of several major economies.
Experts say rooftop solar can reduce household dependence on conventional grids, lower monthly bills and help meet climate targets. With rising demand for energy and urbanisation, decentralised solar systems are expected to play an increasingly important role.
The government is expected to continue incentives, subsidies and awareness drives to accelerate adoption further and widen access to clean power in both urban and rural India.
