Sri Lanka Invites Global Investment in Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Projects

Sri Lanka has invited global investors to participate in its emerging green hydrogen and green ammonia sectors as the island nation seeks to expand its renewable energy capabilities and attract foreign investment. The move is part of Sri Lanka’s broader strategy to position itself as a regional clean energy hub in South Asia.

Sri Lanka is focusing on leveraging its renewable energy resources, including wind and solar power, to produce green hydrogen and ammonia for domestic use and export markets. The initiative aligns with global efforts to transition towards cleaner fuels and reduce carbon emissions.

Green hydrogen is increasingly viewed as a major component of future energy systems, while green ammonia is being explored as both a clean industrial fuel and a hydrogen carrier. Researchers have highlighted growing global interest in green ammonia supply chains due to declining renewable energy costs and rising decarbonisation targets.

The Sri Lankan government has also continued discussions with international investors in the renewable energy sector, emphasising its openness to foreign participation in large-scale infrastructure and energy projects. Analysts believe such investments could help strengthen the country’s economy while accelerating its clean energy transition.
