One of the projects looks at the condition of DEWA’s power assets. It uses live information from the network to identify equipment that may need attention. This gives teams a better idea of where maintenance is required.
DEWA has also developed a system that can restore power after a fault. It identifies the affected area and separates it from the rest of the network. Power can then be redirected through another route.
This can help reduce the time customers spend without electricity. It also allows DEWA teams to respond to faults more quickly.
The authority is using X-ray technology to check some electrical equipment as well. The checks can be carried out while the equipment remains in operation. This can help spot problems at an early stage.
DEWA has also introduced systems that allow parts of the network to be controlled remotely. Engineers can monitor the network from distribution control centres and respond when an issue arises.
Separately, DEWA is also developing the world’s first AI-powered virtual engineer. The system will monitor operations around the clock. It is designed to give early warnings about possible failures and help identify their causes.
The projects form part of Dubai’s wider push to use AI in public services. DEWA is continuing to bring more digital technology into its electricity operations as it works towards a smarter and more reliable power network.
