India is among the top-performing countries globally in meeting its climate targets, Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal said, highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainable development. He noted that India has made significant progress in reducing emissions intensity and expanding renewable energy capacity.
According to the minister, India has already achieved several of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement ahead of schedule. These include increasing the share of non-fossil fuel-based power generation and improving energy efficiency across sectors.
Goyal emphasized that India’s approach balances economic growth with environmental responsibility. He pointed out that the country continues to invest heavily in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, while also promoting green hydrogen and electric mobility.
The minister also underlined India’s leadership in global climate initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, which aims to promote solar energy adoption worldwide. He reiterated that developed nations must fulfill their commitments to climate finance and technology transfer to support developing countries.
India’s progress reflects its long-term vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, while ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth for its population.
