India and UAE Ink MoU to Strengthen Maritime Security and Safety

India and the United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Security and Safety Cooperation, marking a significant step forward in their maritime engagement. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the United Arab Emirates National Guard Command (UAE NGC) signed an MoU after it was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). The agreement was signed in New Delhi at the 13th Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting.

Director General Paramesh Sivamani, AVSM, PTM, TM, represented the Indian Coast Guard, and Brigadier Staff Khalid Obaid Thani Al Shamsi signed on behalf of the UAE Coast Guard Group. The Memorandum of Understanding indicates a shared interest in maritime security and emphasises developing regional cooperation.

This is India’s 10th agreement with the Coast Guard of a Friendly Foreign Country. The alliance aims to strengthen cooperation in key areas like maritime search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, anti-smuggling operations, marine pollution control, and joint training.

This pact, based on India’s SAGAR vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region, represents a strategic alignment between the two countries. It reinforces India’s broader commitment to marine diplomacy while also ensuring a stronger, safer, and more resilient maritime environment in the Indian Ocean region.
