Union Minister for Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday, January 15th, 2026, said India’s unemployment rate stood at 2 per cent, the lowest among G20 nations, citing the World Economic Forum’s The Future of Jobs Report 2025.
Speaking in New Delhi at the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Ministry of Labour and Employment and organisations Mentor Together and Quikr, the Minister highlighted that employment generation had taken place across sectors alongside India’s rapid economic growth. He underlined the role of government schemes in enabling job creation and improving youth employability through the National Career Service (NCS) Portal.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Sushri Shobha Karandlaje. Dr. Mandaviya said the NCS platform, with nearly 52 lakh registered employers, 5.79 crore job seekers, and over 7.22 crore vacancies mobilised so far, was evolving into a one-stop solution for employment-related services. At present, the portal hosts over 44 lakh active vacancies.
He added that over the past year, the Ministry had signed MoUs with ten major organisations, including Amazon and Swiggy, helping mobilise nearly five lakh vacancies.
Highlighting the government’s focus on youth, Dr. Mandaviya recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced five flagship schemes with a total outlay of ₹2 lakh crore to support employment, skilling, and opportunities for 4.1 crore youth. He also stressed the role of schemes such as PM-VBRY, MUDRA and PM SVANidhi in promoting jobs, self-employment and entrepreneurship across services, manufacturing, and agriculture.
