Bangkok is named the 3rd best city to visit in the world for 2026 by The New York Times

Bangkok has been ranked the 3rd best city to visit globally in 2026 by The New York Times, emerging as the top destination in Asia and the ASEAN region. The recognition places the Thai capital on the prestigious “52 Places to Go in 2026” list, highlighting its strong progress in sustainability, culture, and urban innovation.

According to Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, spokesman for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the ranking reflects years of focused efforts to improve the quality of life and modernise the city. Topping the global list is “Revolutionary America,” followed by Warsaw, Poland, with Bangkok securing the third position.

The New York Times described Bangkok as a busy global city that is moving steadily towards a green future. One major highlight is the development of connected green spaces. Parks such as Lumpini and Benjakitti are now linked by the “Green Bridge,” offering residents and visitors access to open spaces, lotus ponds, and urban forests.

Bangkok’s cultural growth was also noted, with venues like Dib Bangkok showcasing works by 40 local and international artists. In addition, the city’s transport upgrades, including AI-managed traffic systems, electric buses, and safer motorcycle taxi services, have improved mobility.

Calling the ranking a strong encouragement, the BMA said the recognition confirms Bangkok’s path towards becoming a greener, safer, and more liveable city for all.
