Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has said that India is leading the G20 nations in climate action and clean energy growth, highlighting the country’s rapid progress in sustainable development. Speaking at a recent event, Goyal underscored India’s commitment to achieving its climate targets while maintaining economic growth.
He noted that India has made significant strides in expanding renewable energy capacity, particularly in solar and wind sectors, and is on track to meet its ambitious goals under international climate agreements. The minister emphasised that India’s approach balances environmental responsibility with developmental needs, making it a model for other emerging economies.
Goyal also pointed to initiatives such as green hydrogen missions, electric mobility, and energy efficiency programs as key drivers of India’s clean energy transition. He highlighted that India’s policies are focused on innovation, investment, and international collaboration to accelerate sustainability efforts.
The minister added that India’s leadership in climate action is being recognised globally, particularly within the G20 framework. He reiterated that developed nations must also fulfil their commitments to climate finance and technology transfer to support global sustainability goals.
