India has reached a significant milestone in the semiconductor industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that three semiconductor plants are expected to become operational within the next six months.
At the inauguration of the CG Semi Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Gujarat, the Prime Minister said the rapid commissioning reflects India’s transition from a technology importer to a global semiconductor manufacturing destination.
The newly inaugurated facility is India’s first outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) plant. Modi said the achievement demonstrates the country’s ability to convert policy commitments into tangible industrial progress.
The Prime Minister noted that India’s Semiconductor Mission, launched in 2021, has accelerated implementation, with five semiconductor projects currently under development. According to Modi, the pace of execution signals growing confidence among global investors in India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Beyond fabrication, the government is focusing on building an integrated semiconductor value chain spanning chip design, research, packaging, testing, equipment, materials, and skilled talent. The broader objective is to strengthen India’s position within global electronics supply chains.
Modi highlighted that expanding domestic semiconductor manufacturing is expected to generate new employment opportunities for engineers, researchers, and skilled professionals supporting the industry’s long-term growth.
While India continues to scale its semiconductor ecosystem, the rapid commissioning of multiple facilities marks a major step towards reducing import dependence and positioning the country as a reliable hub for advanced electronics manufacturing.
