India Unveils ₹25,060 Crore Export Promotion Mission to Strengthen MSME Competitiveness

The Union government aims to boost India’s export ecosystem through the Export Promotion Mission, with a financial commitment of ₹25,060 crore from FY 2025-26 to FY 2030-31. The proposal, approved by the Union Cabinet on November 12, is intended to boost global competitiveness for micro, small, and medium enterprises, new exporters, and labour-intensive industries that are under increasing pressure in foreign markets.

The Commerce Ministry has highlighted the difficulties faced by textile exporters due to their reliance on the United States, emphasising that tariff-related hurdles limit the effectiveness of US-focused incentives. At the same time, officials noted that exporters have gradually expanded their market reach, minimising reliance on any single area.

This diversification tendency is particularly evident in the marine products industry. Although the United States accounts for approximately one-third of global maritime exports, total shipments have increased in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. Increased demand from the European Union and ASEAN countries has helped to mitigate market-specific restrictions.

The Export Promotion Mission replaces fragmented programs with a uniform, outcome-oriented structure. It brings together the Department of Commerce, MSME Ministry, Finance Ministry, financial institutions, export councils, commodities boards, industry associations, and state governments.
