Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the rapid progress of India’s maritime sector, describing it as moving forward with “master speed and energy” while recalling the country’s rich maritime heritage. Speaking on the occasion of National Maritime Day, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of ports, shipping, and waterways in driving economic growth and global trade connectivity.
He noted that India has undertaken significant reforms and infrastructure development in recent years to modernise ports, enhance logistics efficiency, and boost coastal shipping. Initiatives such as port-led development and increased private participation have helped strengthen the maritime ecosystem, positioning India as a key player in global trade routes.
The Prime Minister also emphasised the role of the maritime sector in achieving the vision of a developed India, stating that efficient logistics and connectivity are crucial for economic expansion. He acknowledged the contribution of seafarers, port workers, and stakeholders who continue to power the sector.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Modi said efforts will continue to improve sustainability, adopt green technologies, and expand maritime infrastructure, ensuring long-term growth and competitiveness in the sector.
