India’s Next Agricultural Revolution Will Be AI-Driven: Dr. Jitendra Singh

India’s next agricultural revolution will be powered by artificial intelligence, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said at the AI4Agri 2026 Summit in Mumbai, positioning AI at the heart of farm policy, research, and investment. Addressing the Global Conference on AI in Agriculture and Investor Summit 2026, he said AI offers scalable solutions to chronic challenges such as erratic weather, fragmented markets, and information gaps. Even a 10% productivity gain for 600 million farmers across the Global South, he noted, could become the century’s largest poverty-reduction opportunity.

Linking the push to the ₹10,372-crore India AI Mission, Singh highlighted BharatGen’s “Agri Param” model, which delivers advisory services in 22 Indian languages, ensuring farmers access guidance in their mother tongue. He said the Department of Science and Technology is backing an open India AI Stack, while the Anusandhan National Research Foundation supports AI research with IITs, IIS,c and ICAR.

From drone-based soil mapping to climate-linked early warning systems, AI is already aiding farm planning. Citing Maharashtra’s MahaAgri-AI Policy and Budget 2026–27’s Bharat-VISTAAR tool, Singh urged investors to back scalable agri-AI platforms that improve real farm incomes.
