Mauritian PM Ramgoolam Arrives in India to Strengthen Strategic Ties

Mauritian Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam arrived in Mumbai for a State visit to deepen the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership. This is his first overseas bilateral visit during his current term, highlighting the significance of the two nations’ relationship.

The Ministry of External Affairs extended a warm welcome, noting that the visit would advance mutual cooperation in areas of security, trade, and cultural exchange. PM Ramgoolam will attend a major business event in Mumbai before travelling to Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. Elaborate arrangements have been made in Varanasi for the leaders’ visit on September 11.

During his visit, PM Ramgoolam will meet with President Droupadi Murmu and hold extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen collaboration under India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policies. The visit comes after Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Mauritius in March 2025 for the island nation’s National Day celebrations, demonstrating continuous high-level political engagement.

India and Mauritius share a long history and culture. Diplomatic ties were established before Mauritius acquired independence, resulting in a cooperation built on trust and mutual understanding.
