Modi Unveils India’s ‘Chips to Ships’ Manufacturing Roadmap in Australia

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is building a manufacturing  “chips to ships” ecosystem while investing in emerging technologies such as 6G, as the country works towards becoming a developed nation.

Addressing members of the Indian community in Melbourne, Modi said India has emerged as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, with more than two lakh registered startups and over 4,000 new startups being launched every month. He added that entrepreneurship is no longer limited to major cities, and innovation is expanding rapidly across districts.

Highlighting India’s growing technology ecosystem, the Prime Minister said hundreds of startups are now working in strategic defence and space sectors. An Indian private space startup is preparing to launch a satellite using its own rocket, reflecting the country’s expanding capabilities in space technology.

Modi addressed India’s long-term ambitions, referring to the upcoming Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission and plans to establish an Indian space station as part of the country’s expanding space programme.

Reflecting on India-Australia ties, the Prime Minister recalled his first visit to Australia in 2014, the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 28 years, and described his current visit as his third in 12 years. He credited the Indian diaspora for strengthening bilateral relations, saying their contribution had played a major role in bringing the two countries closer.

Modi received a warm welcome from members of the Indian community in Melbourne and thanked them for their affection, saying their enduring bond with India continues to be a source of pride.
