PM Modi Begins New Zealand Visit After Australia Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in New Zealand for the final leg of his three-nation tour after concluding his visit to Australia, where they expanded cooperation across defence, clean energy, trade, and critical minerals.

During his two-day visit to Auckland, Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, meet senior leaders, and address members of the Indian diaspora. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening economic and commercial ties following the signing of the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.

Before departing Australia, Modi expressed his gratitude to the Australian government and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for their hospitality, saying the visit had further strengthened the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and opened new avenues for cooperation.

The New Zealand visit followed a series of high-level engagements during Modi’s overseas tour. India and Indonesia signed multiple agreements covering defence cooperation, critical minerals, maritime security, and education. In Australia, the two countries concluded a landmark agreement that enables the commercial supply of Australian uranium to India’s civilian nuclear energy programme while expanding collaboration in strategic sectors.

Ahead of his arrival in Auckland, Modi said discussions with Prime Minister Luxon would focus on building upon the momentum generated since Luxon’s visit to India earlier this year. The leaders are expected to explore opportunities to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and regional connectivity across the Indo-Pacific.

The PM Modi New Zealand visit marks the final stop of the Prime Minister’s diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening India’s strategic and economic partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region.
