NTPC Begins 38-MW Solar Operations in Gujarat’s Khavda Project

The state-run NTPC Limited announced the start of commercial operations for a 38-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Gujarat. The project is another milestone in the company’s expanding renewable energy portfolio.

According to NTPC, the 38-MW capacity is part of the 300-MW Khavda Solar Energy Project being implemented by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a step-down subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited. The project is a crucial component of the company’s 450-MW Hybrid Tranche V program in Gujarat, which aims to accelerate India’s renewable energy transition.

Previously, three segments of the project—142.2 MW, 32.8 MW, and 49.125 MW—were declared commercially operational on June 28, June 30, and August 22, 2025. With the recent addition of 37.95 MW, the Khavda project’s total operational capacity is now 262.07 MW.

NTPC stated that the new unit became operational on October 19, increasing the company’s overall renewable energy footprint. With this, NTPC Green Energy Limited Group’s overall commercial capacity has increased to 7,515.72 MW, while its total installed capacity is now 7,553.675 MW. The development demonstrates NTPC’s ongoing efforts to diversify its power generation mix and help India achieve its renewable energy goals.
