Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the exposition of sacred Buddha relics in Leh, calling it a moment of immense spiritual and cultural significance for Ladakh and the nation. The event coincided with Buddha Purnima and marked the display of revered Piprahwa relics, believed to be associated with Lord Buddha. The relics were brought from the National Museum in New Delhi for a special public exposition in Leh, drawing devotees, monks, tourists and local residents.
In a message shared publicly, the Prime Minister said the exposition would deepen India’s civilisational connection with Buddhist traditions and strengthen the country’s identity as a global centre of peace and compassion. He also underlined that the initiative is expected to promote spiritual and cultural tourism in the Himalayan region.
Ladakh has historically served as an important centre of Buddhist learning and monastic culture. The arrival of the relics was welcomed by local religious leaders, who described it as a once-in-a-generation opportunity for devotees. Ceremonies, prayers and cultural events were held around the exhibition.
Officials said the exposition is part of broader efforts to preserve and showcase India’s Buddhist heritage, while also boosting tourism and economic activity in remote but culturally significant regions like Ladakh.
