PM Modi Holds Key Bilateral Talks with U.K. and UAE Leaders at G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral meetings with the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, to strengthen economic cooperation, regional security, and strategic partnerships.

During his meeting with Starmer, Modi highlights the progress made in India-U.K. relations over the past year, following the signing of the India-U.K. Free Trade Agreement in 2025. The two leaders discussed ways to accelerate economic cooperation further and expand bilateral engagement across key sectors.

The leaders also reflected on developments in West Asia and welcomed recent diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions. According to Downing Street, both sides discussed the importance of ensuring freedom through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy and trade route.

Modi’s meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the UAE leadership for supporting the Indian expatriate community.

India and the UAE have cooperated in recent years through trade, investment, energy and security partnerships. The two countries signed a landmark trade agreement in 2022, with recent discussions focusing on defence cooperation and the development of India’s oil reserves, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The meetings underscored India’s growing engagement with key global partners, reflecting New Delhi’s consistency to strengthen economic and strategic ties amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
