The UAE has been chosen as the headquarters for the new GCC Civil Aviation Authority, a significant step towards greater regional collaboration in the aviation sector. The decision reflects the UAE’s robust aviation ecosystem and longstanding leadership in global air transport. Hosting the authority is expected to help produce unifying regulations, streamline operations, and promote communication among the six GCC nations.
The UAE’s aviation business has expanded dramatically over the years, thanks to world-class airports, large airline networks, and significant infrastructure investment. Dubai International Airport remains one of the busiest hubs for international travellers, and the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport shows the country’s ambition to improve its worldwide connectivity. Passenger traffic in the UAE is expected to surpass 155 million by 2025, cementing its status as a significant gateway for tourism and business travel.
The new authority is also expected to assist efforts like the impending unified GCC visa, which will allow travellers to travel between member countries with a single permit. This measure will increase tourism, streamline travel, and strengthen the Gulf’s competitiveness. By hosting the headquarters, the UAE hopes to strengthen regional collaboration and establish the GCC as a major aviation and tourism hub.
