Neeraj Chopra, who won silver at the Paris Olympics, came in second place in the 2024 Diamond League final, which was held at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Chopra’s best throw of 87.86 meters was only one centimetre short of the winning throw by Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who won his first Diamond League title with an outstanding 87.87-meter effort.
Chopra, who became the first Indian to win a Diamond League Trophy in 2022, got off to a great start with an 86.82-meter throw. Despite continuously forceful tries, he was unable to overtake Peters’ early lead. Julian Weber, Germany’s reigning 2023 European Games champion, finished third with a best throw of 85.97 meters.
This was Chopra’s seventh Diamond League final, demonstrating his consistent rise in the world athletics arena. His 2024 route to the final benefited from strong showings in earlier stages, particularly the Doha and Lausanne legs, for a total of 14 qualification points.
Despite dealing with a groin injury throughout the season, Chopra delivered outstanding performances, including setting a national record of 89.94 meters in Stockholm and a second-best throw of 89.49 meters in Lausanne, demonstrating his perseverance and consistency as a top javelin thrower.
