India celebrated a proud moment when Aman Patel won India’s first gold medal at the Pickleball World Championships, which were held at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas. Competing in the Men’s Singles Open 5.0 category, which includes skilled amateur players aged 8 to 34, Aman displayed dominance throughout the tournament.
In the final, he defeated Cristobal Del Castillo of Chile in straight games, 11-6, 11-8, exhibiting calm composure under pressure. Aman started strong with a 5-1 lead in the first game and maintained his lead until the finish. Cristobal attempted a comeback in the second game, but the Indian player’s consistency and quick reflexes secured the victory in straight sets.
Earlier, Aman overcame fellow Indian Dev Shah 11-0, 13-11 in the semifinals. Dev eventually won bronze following a hard-fought 11-9, 0-11, 11-7 victory over American Daniel Phillips. Interestingly, Phillips had also lost to Aman in the quarterfinals after a thrilling three-game match.
Before Aman’s triumph, Nilesh Desai had made history by winning silver in doubles alongside the USA’s Tyler Refling. India finished with one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, its best-ever performance at the Pickleball World Championships to date.
