Dubai has launched battery-swapping stations for electric bikes at 36 locations, which marks a big step forward in its sustainable transport strategy. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Terra Tech Ltd, created this program to encourage the use of electric bikes and help the city’s carbon reduction goals.
The stations are strategically located around Dubai and are intended to help delivery operators easily exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones. This will reduce downtime, increase operational efficiency, and encourage the shift away from fuel-powered delivery fleets. The engagement with Terra Tech, a technological start-up specialising in B2B micromobility solutions, demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to developing a modern infrastructure for zero-emission travel.
This is the region’s first large-scale project of its kind, with scalable solutions that lower delivery companies’ total cost of ownership. The system aims to reduce fuel consumption, operating expenses, and noise pollution while meeting the sector’s specific charging requirements.
The initiative is part of the Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030, which seeks to reduce sector emissions by 30%. The RTA is inviting delivery companies to include these stations in their operations, advancing Dubai’s goal of a cleaner and more efficient transportation network.
