Abu Dhabi has approved its first self-driving delivery vehicle, a significant step in the emirate’s ambition for smart mobility and sustainable logistics. This week, the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council approved the first licence plate for an autonomous delivery vehicle, opening the way for a pilot launch.
Developed by Autogo, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi-based K2, the AI-powered vehicle will work with EMX, the logistics arm of Emirates Post and 7X. The vehicle is designed to navigate city streets independently, utilising advanced smart mobility and artificial intelligence to deliver packages efficiently and safely without human intervention.
The pilot program will begin in Masdar City, a hub for innovation and clean technology, before gradually expanding across Abu Dhabi. Authorities aim to partner with additional stakeholders as operations scale up to cover wider areas of the emirate.
Officials stated the initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s goal of making 25% of all trips smart and sustainable by 2040. The emirate has already introduced self-driving taxis, showcasing its commitment to futuristic transportation solutions.
This move is marked as a key step towards promoting smart logistics, reducing emissions, easing congestion, and enhancing customer experience.
