England has been confirmed to host the next three ICC World Test Championship (WTC) finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031. The decision was approved during the ICC’s annual conference in Singapore. This declaration follows the country’s successful hosting of the first three WTC finals since 2021.
There had been talk of moving future finals to India, but the ICC cited the England and Wales Cricket Board’s successful track record. Richard Gould, ECB chief executive, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, citing the dedication of English fans to Test cricket and the willingness of global supporters to travel for the event.
The ICC has confirmed that the finals will continue to be held in June, coinciding with the early English summer. This date avoids major clashes with other international events and corresponds to the IPL season, ensuring player availability. England’s ability to draw large crowds for neutral matches has been cited as an important element. The 2023 final at The Oval and the current final at Lord’s both garnered large crowds.
Gould pointed out that, while England does not claim the right to host perpetually, it provides unparalleled crowd engagement.
