Singapore celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations with India with a brilliant sunflower exhibition at Gardens by the Bay. The event, known as “Sunflower Surprise,” was launched by India’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Dr Shilpak Ambule, in the presence of Singaporean Minister Indranee Rajah and other dignitaries.
The 105-hectare urban park was transformed into a sea of golden blooms, with over 3,000 sunflowers from 20 different types carefully nurtured and displayed for the public. According to Dr Ambule, the sunflower, recognised for its warmth and joy, represents India and Singapore’s long friendship.
The exhibition also exhibited elaborate models of Jaipur’s architectural icons, such as replicas of the Hawa Mahal and Amer Stepwell, which combined India’s artistic legacy with Singapore’s innovative horticulture. These installations emphasised the cultural and historical riches that both countries continue to celebrate.
Felix Loh, CEO of Gardens by the Bay, emphasised that the sunflower represents optimism and cooperation between the two countries. The event not only celebrated six decades of partnership but also demonstrated the mutual appreciation for art, nature, and innovation that has strengthened the India-Singapore bond.
