India and South Africa Advance Agricultural Ties at 5th Joint Working Group Meeting

India and South Africa recently conducted their fifth Joint Working Group on Agriculture, confirming their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in farming, research, and commerce. The discussions took place under the framework of the India-South Africa Agricultural Partnership, with senior officials from both countries emphasising the significance of collaborating in important areas.

The meeting placed special emphasis on research and innovation, including advancements in crop improvement, animal husbandry, food security, and climate-resilient farming practices. Both countries agreed that scientific collaboration and the sharing of expertise will be critical in addressing issues like sustainable productivity and the impact of changing weather patterns on agriculture.

Another crucial point of discussion was market access, with both delegations emphasising the importance of growing agricultural trade prospects and export potential. The participants emphasised the importance of mutual assistance in expanding market options for farmers, guaranteeing fair trade practices, and encouraging technology-driven agricultural growth.

India and South Africa also examined the progress of previous collaborations, highlighting excellent outcomes in training programs, cooperative research projects, and knowledge sharing across agricultural institutions. Officials emphasised that such cooperation would benefit both countries while also contributing to global food security and sustainable development.
