India and the European Union (EU) have intensified their engagement to accelerate ongoing negotiations on trade and technology cooperation, signalling renewed momentum in their strategic partnership. The move follows commitments made during the January 2026 India–EU Summit, with both sides aiming to fast-track outcomes in the coming months.
A series of high-level interactions and initiatives is being planned, including the visit of an 11-member European Parliament delegation to India led by Angelika Niebler. The visit is expected to strengthen parliamentary ties and facilitate progress in trade and technology discussions.
Officials from both sides are also scheduled to hold consultations on the Indo-Pacific region in May, focusing on key areas such as maritime security, supply chain resilience, and regional stability. These discussions reflect a broader alignment on geopolitical and economic priorities.
The India–EU Trade and Technology Council is set to meet at the ministerial level in mid-2026, with a focus on advancing cooperation in digital trade and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and 6G. Both sides are also working towards concluding agreements on information security and innovation partnerships.
The stepped-up engagement builds on the recently concluded free trade agreement, which is expected to significantly enhance market access, boost investments, and deepen economic integration between India and the EU in the coming years.
