India, Iran, and Armenia held a trilateral meeting in Tehran to discuss potential collaboration in transportation and communication projects. The discussion centred on improving collaboration within the framework of the International North-South Transport Corridor and Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace Initiative. Delegates emphasised the importance of Iran’s Chabahar Port in promoting regional connectivity and trade opportunities.
This was the third meeting in this trilateral format, with the previous meetings conducted in Yerevan in April 2023 and New Delhi in December 2024. Officials reviewed the progress made since those conversations and assessed ongoing projects aimed at improving infrastructure links between South Asia, the Persian Gulf, and the Caucasus.
Participants emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation beyond transportation to include trade, cultural exchange, and people-to-people ties. Strengthening these sectors was viewed as critical to improving economic relations and promoting long-term regional stability.
The Iranian delegation was led by Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Director General for South Asian Affairs, and the Indian side was led by Anand Prakash, Regional Director for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran. Anahit Karapetyan, head of the Asia-Pacific Department, represented Armenia.
The three nations agreed that Armenia would host the next round of negotiations next year at a mutually convenient time.
