Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Raksha Khadse visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to review final preparations for the inaugural World Para Athletics Championships 2025. The opening ceremony, set for September 25, will mark a historic moment as India hosts this prestigious international event for the first time. Elite para-athletes from more than 100 nations will compete in the championships, highlighting India’s expanding status as a global sports destination.
During their inspection, the Ministers visited critical areas of the stadium, like the Accreditation Centre, Medical Centre, warm-up tracks, and the newly-laid MONDO main track, which Mandaviya inaugurated on August 29. This track will see 73 Indian para-athletes compete against international champions for top honours.
Speaking at the venue, Mandaviya stated that under PM Modi’s leadership, India has established itself as a reliable host of major global sporting events. He emphasised the Prime Minister’s philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “the world is one family,” which reflects the championships’ inclusive spirit.
Officials from the Paralympic Committee of India, including President Devender Jhajharia, briefed the Ministers on the Indian contingent’s readiness. The Ministers also reviewed the gym, classification area, lounges, and medical facilities, emphasising the importance of smooth operations for all participants and officials.
