India Successfully Test-Fires Long-Range Agni-5 Ballistic Missile from Odisha

India successfully tested the Agni-5 ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the missile met all mission goals, and its performance aligns precisely with expectations. The Strategic Forces Command, which maintains India’s nuclear weapons, oversaw the launch, which marked another significant milestone in the country’s defence preparedness.

The Agni-5, classified as an intercontinental ballistic missile, has a strike range of over 5,000 kilometres and is designed to carry nuclear warheads with high precision. The missile was launched from a mobile launcher and travelled across its planned trajectory before striking its target in the Bay of Bengal. The flight lasted around 20 minutes and validated the missile’s reliability under varied conditions.

The missile was developed indigenously and contains advanced rocket motors, superior navigation systems, and a design that reduces its chances of detection. It is additionally equipped with numerous independently targetable re-entry vehicles, allowing a single missile to strike many targets, therefore increasing India’s deterrence capability.

The successful test contributes to India’s increasing missile arsenal, which includes the Agni-4 and Prithvi series. According to defence experts, constant testing and upgrade ensures that the country’s strike capability remains robust and credible.
