Keiichi Ono, Japan’s Ambassador to India, led a high-level delegation of Japanese companies to the Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat. This greenfield smart industrial city is an important project along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. The visit aims to strengthen industrial cooperation between India and Japan. The delegation’s two-day participation began with a conference session in Ahmedabad. Officials from Dholera Industrial City Development Ltd. and the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation also attended the visit.
The team toured the Water Treatment Plant, Canal Front Development, and Power Substation. They also toured Tata Electronics’ semiconductor fabrication facility, which is now under construction. The plant is being developed in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation. The facility is a major component of the Semicon India programme. Gujarat is receiving more than Rs 1.54 lakh crore in semiconductor-related investments.
The delegation reviewed Dholera’s planned social infrastructure, which included a multi-specialty hospital, an integrated school, a fire station, and hospitality hubs. Dholera is intended to be a living, investment-ready smart city. The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the planned Greenfield International Airport provide multimodal connectivity for the city. Dholera also includes plug-and-play industrial zones and real-time governance technologies. The visit highlights Dholera’s growing importance in India’s push for innovative manufacturing.
