Marine exports record nearly 20% growth despite global headwinds: Piyush Goyal

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, said India’s maritime exports had grown by about 20% in the previous seven months, demonstrating the sector’s resilience in the face of ongoing global uncertainty. Responding to queries in the Lok Sabha, the Minister claimed that the increase was achieved despite trade hurdles, such as anti-dumping duties imposed by some nations on Indian fish export establishments.

He noted that sustained government efforts are focused on diversifying fish exports to unlock higher growth and reduce dependence on limited markets. Goyal informed the House that 102 marine export establishments from India had been successfully registered with the European Union, while 25 establishments have secured approval from Russia. He noted that several additional units are now being registered, which is expected to create new opportunities and strengthen India’s presence in international markets.

The Minister mentioned the government’s latest ₹25,000 crore Niryat Disha plan, which aims to promote exports. The project seeks to boost India’s export competitiveness through non-financial assistance. Niryat Disha, a sub-scheme of the Export Promotion Mission approved by the Cabinet in November 2025, aims to improve market readiness, quality standards, compliance, branding, packaging, trade intelligence, and capacity-building activities for exporters.
